How does the classroom group maker divide students into groups?

Paste your student names, one per line. Choose whether you want a fixed number of groups or a fixed group size, enter the number, and press Generate groups. The tool shuffles the names randomly and deals them out so the groups are as even as possible.

What is the difference between number of groups and group size?

Number of groups means you decide how many groups there will be, for example 5 groups of any size. Group size means you decide how many students go in each group, for example groups of 4, and the tool works out how many groups that makes.

Can I reshuffle the groups?

Yes. Press the Reshuffle button to mix the names again and create a new random grouping. You can reshuffle as many times as you like until you are happy with the result.

Can I copy or print the generated groups?

Yes. Use Copy results to copy all groups as plain text for pasting into a document or chat, or use Print to get a clean printer-friendly list of the groups.

Classroom Group Maker

Split your class into fair, random groups in seconds. Paste student names, pick a grouping mode, and let the tool do the rest. No account needed — everything runs in your browser.

Tip: duplicates and blank lines are removed automatically. If the names do not divide evenly, the first groups each get one extra student so the sizes stay as balanced as possible.
