How the comparison works
- Cost per km = fuel price divided by mileage (petrol price per litre / km per litre; CNG price per kg / km per kg).
- Monthly fuel cost = cost per km multiplied by monthly distance (daily km x 30).
- Monthly saving = petrol monthly cost minus CNG monthly cost; yearly saving = monthly saving x 12.
- CNG kit break-even = kit installation cost divided by monthly saving, in months.
- This is a fuel-only comparison — kit cost, extra CNG maintenance, cylinder inspection and petrol used during warm-up are not included in the monthly figure.
When CNG makes sense
- High daily running: the more km you drive daily, the faster the kit pays back. Low-running cars may never recover the kit cost.
- Stable CNG supply: factor in CNG station load-shedding days in your area — on those days you still run on petrol.
- Kit quality: a certified kit and correct tuning protect your engine and give the mileage you entered above.
Frequently asked questions
Usually yes: CNG costs less per kg than petrol per litre and CNG cars get good mileage per kg, so the cost per km is lower. Enter your daily km, mileage and current prices in the calculator to see your exact saving.
Divide the kit installation cost by your monthly CNG saving. For example, a Rs 55,000 kit that saves Rs 5,500 per month pays back in 10 months. Higher daily running means faster break-even.
Enter km per litre for petrol and km per kg for CNG, from your real driving. Defaults are editable estimates, not company claims. City traffic gives lower mileage than highway driving.
