How to use

  1. Enter your cotton area in acres and the expected yield in maunds per acre.
  2. Enter the expected sale price per maund in Pakistani rupees.
  3. Enter each season cost as the total for the whole area, not per acre.
  4. Click Calculate Profit to see revenue, costs, net profit, profit per acre and break-even yield.

How the calculation works

Total revenue = area (acres) × expected yield (maunds per acre) × sale price (PKR per maund). Total cost = seed + fertilizer + pesticide + irrigation + labour + picking costs. Net profit = total revenue − total cost. Profit per acre = net profit ÷ area.

Break-even yield = total cost ÷ (area × sale price). This is the yield per acre at which revenue exactly covers cost. If your actual yield is higher, you make a profit; if it is lower, you face a loss.

Note: this is a planning estimate. Actual results depend on weather, pest attacks, market price at harvest time and picking quality.

Frequently asked questions

How is cotton crop net profit calculated?

Net profit equals total revenue minus total cost. Total revenue is area in acres times expected yield in maunds per acre times the sale price per maund. Total cost is the sum of seed, fertilizer, pesticide, irrigation, labour and picking costs.

What is break-even yield?

Break-even yield is the yield per acre at which revenue exactly covers cost. It is calculated as total cost divided by the product of area and sale price. Any yield above this number means profit; below it means loss.

Should I enter costs as totals or per acre?

Enter each cost as the total for your whole cotton area in Pakistani rupees. The calculator divides the results by the area automatically to show profit per acre.
