About the two Eids
Eid ul Fitr
Eid ul Fitr is celebrated on 1 Shawwal, the day after the month of Ramadan ends. Muslims gather for a special morning prayer, share festive meals with family, give gifts and charity, and greet each other with "Eid Mubarak". The day marks gratitude after a month of fasting from dawn to sunset.
Eid ul Adha
Eid ul Adha falls on 10 Dhul-Hijjah, during the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah. It honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice, and families who can afford it offer an animal sacrifice, sharing the meat with relatives, neighbours and people in need. The Eid lasts three days of celebration and prayer.
