Frequently asked questions

A slip fielder stands behind the batter on the off side, next to the wicket-keeper, and catches edges that fly off the bat from fast bowlers. Slips are a key part of attacking fields with the new ball.

Deep square leg stands deep behind square on the leg side, near the boundary. The fielder there fields pull shots and hooks hit behind square on the leg side.

For a right-hand batter, the off side is the half of the field the batter faces (cover, point, slips), and the leg side is the half behind the batter (square leg, fine leg, mid-wicket). For a left-hand batter the two sides swap.

The quiz asks 5 random questions about where fielders stand. Pick the correct description from 4 options, and you get your score at the end with a short explanation for each answer.
