Cricket Run Rate Calculator
Calculate current run rate, required run rate, projected score and batting strike rate. Enter overs in decimal cricket notation, for example 12.3 means 12 overs and 3 balls.
Current Run Rate
Run rate = runs scored ÷ overs bowled. Enter overs like 12.3 for 12 overs and 3 balls.
Required Run Rate (Run Chase)
Required run rate = runs needed ÷ overs remaining.
Projected Score
Projected score = current score + run rate × overs remaining. See the projection at the current run rate and at any expected run rate you enter.
Batting Strike Rate
Strike rate = (runs scored ÷ balls faced) × 100.
Benchmarks: In T20 cricket a strike rate above 140 is excellent and above 120 is good. In ODIs a strike rate above 90 is good and above 100 is excellent. In Tests, strike rate matters far less than time at the crease.
How the maths works
- Decimal overs: 12.3 means 12 full overs plus 3 balls, which is 75 balls or 12.50 overs. Only 0 to 5 are valid after the decimal point.
- Current run rate: runs divided by overs bowled, for example 132 runs in 14.2 overs (86 balls = 14.33 overs) gives 9.21.
- Required run rate: runs still needed divided by overs remaining, for example 85 needed from 9 overs gives 9.44.
- Projected score: current score plus run rate times overs remaining.
- Strike rate: runs divided by balls faced times 100, for example 68 from 42 balls gives 161.90.
