Gravel Calculator
Ordering too little crush stalls the work; ordering too much wastes money. Enter the area length, width and depth to get the exact volume and weight of gravel needed — plus the cost, so you can order with confidence.
—
How to use
- Enter the area length and width.
- Enter the gravel / crush depth in inches.
- Confirm the density (about 1.6 tonnes per m3 for common crush).
- The volume, weight and cost will be shown.
Note: The layer becomes thinner after compaction — ordering 10% extra is common practice for a deep base. Rates change — verify with the official source before relying on this.
Tips
- Add 5–10% extra for compaction and spillage — the calculated figure is the neat volume.
- Confirm the density with your supplier; different crush types weigh differently per cubic metre.
- Measure the depth after levelling the base — an uneven base throws the whole estimate off.
- Price per trolley or per cubic foot varies by area; enter your local rate for a realistic cost.
