kVA to kW Converter
Generators and transformers are rated in kVA, but your load consumes kW — the difference is the power factor. Enter apparent power, power factor and voltage to get real power in kW, reactive power in kVAR and an estimated current for single or three-phase systems.
Result will appear here.
How to use
- Enter the apparent power in kVA from the equipment nameplate.
- Enter the power factor (0 to 1) — use 0.8 if the nameplate does not list one.
- Add the voltage and choose single or three phase to also estimate the current in amps.
- Read the live results: real power (kW), reactive power (kVAR) and the current estimate below.
Note: kW = kVA x Power Factor. Most loads have a PF of 0.8 lagging — always check the nameplate.
Tips
- kW = kVA × power factor: a 100 kVA generator at 0.8 PF delivers 80 kW of usable power.
- Motor loads usually run near 0.8 lagging PF; resistive heaters are close to 1.0.
- Size generators with headroom — running at full rated kVA continuously shortens equipment life.
