How to use
- Paste your text passage.
- Choose whether case matters, then click Count.
- Read the table sorted from most to least frequent letter.
Tips
- Longer texts give more reliable letter patterns — a few paragraphs beat a single sentence for cipher analysis.
- In English, E is usually the most common letter, followed by T and A; that pattern helps when decoding substitution ciphers.
- If you only want to compare the letters themselves, keep numbers and punctuation out of the pasted text.
In typical English prose, E is usually the most frequent letter at about 12 percent, followed by T and A. Big differences can hint that a text is encoded.
