Mortar Calculator
Planning brick or block work? Enter the mortar volume you need, your mix ratio and a wastage allowance to find out exactly how many cement bags and how much sand to buy — so you order the right amount the first time.
—
How to use
- Enter the required wet mortar volume in ft3.
- Enter the mix ratio (common brick mortar 1:4 or 1:6).
- Enter the wastage.
- The cement bags and sand amounts will be shown below.
Tips
- Always add 10 to 15 percent wastage — spillage and uneven joints use up material.
- Dry volume is larger than wet volume; the calculator already adjusts for this.
- Order a little extra sand — running out in the middle of a wall slows the whole job.
- Store cement bags off the ground in a dry place; damp cement loses its strength.
Note: Mortar shrinks as it dries, so dry volume is calculated from wet volume with a 1.33 factor. You can also find a wall's mortar volume with the brick calculator. Rates change — verify with the official source before relying on this.
