Why M-Tag pays for itself

  • 50% extra without it: since 15 June 2025, vehicles without an M-Tag (or with too little balance) pay 50% extra toll on M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M9, M14 and E-35 under an NHA notification.
  • No queue: M-Tag lanes scan the windscreen tag while the vehicle slows down — no stopping, no cash, no change.
  • Budget control: toll is deducted from a prepaid balance, so trip costs are predictable and recorded.
  • Low balance counts as cash: if the tag balance cannot cover the toll, the lane may treat the vehicle as a non-M-Tag one — top up before long trips.

Get an M-Tag — registration steps

  1. Go to a registration point: drive to a designated M-Tag point, usually at a motorway service or rest area.
  2. Carry documents: original CNIC, vehicle registration book or card, and a valid driving licence.
  3. Bring the vehicle: staff fix the tag on the inside of the windscreen where lane scanners can read it.
  4. Pay and load balance: pay the registration fee and load your first balance; keep the receipt with the tag number.
  5. Use M-Tag lanes: on the motorway follow the marked M-Tag lanes and slow down at the barrier until it lifts.
