How much paint do I need for one room?

What is a normal paint coverage rate per litre?

Most wall paints cover about 100 to 140 square feet per litre for one coat on a smooth wall. The tool starts with 120 square feet per litre, and you can change it to match the coverage written on your paint bucket.

Why should I subtract doors and windows?

Doors and windows are not painted, so counting their area as wall area makes you buy extra paint. A standard door is about 21 square feet and a standard window about 15 square feet, and the tool uses these values automatically.

How many coats of paint should I plan for?

Two coats is standard for walls and gives even colour and good coverage. Use one coat only for a fresh-up of the same colour, and three coats when changing from a dark colour to a light one.

How does the calculator convert litres into gallons?

Paint in Pakistan is commonly sold in 4-litre gallons. The result shows both litres and the equivalent number of 4-litre gallons, rounded up, so you buy enough without a shortage.

How to use it

Add each room with its length, width and height in feet. Wall area is calculated as 2 times (length + width) times height. The ceiling is not included.
Enter the number of doors and windows. A standard door counts as 21 square feet and a standard window as 15 square feet, and this area is subtracted automatically.
Choose the number of coats. Coverage defaults to 120 square feet per litre, which suits most wall paints. Change it to match your paint bucket.
Add a wastage percentage for touch-ups and spillage. The result rounds litres up and also shows 4-litre gallons, since paint shops in Pakistan sell by the gallon.
