Minimum wage applies to workers covered by federal and provincial minimum wage notifications, including factory, shop, and commercial establishment employees. Certain categories such as apprentices, domestic workers, and managerial staff may be treated differently under specific laws.
Under the Factories Act, overtime is generally paid at twice the normal hourly rate. This calculator computes your hourly rate from the monthly wage and doubles it for each overtime hour.
The standard method divides the monthly wage by 26 working days to get the daily wage, then divides the daily wage by 8 working hours to get the hourly rate. Overtime is paid at 2 times that hourly rate.
