Pakistan Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Guide

Keep your number and switch networks — here is the full PTA process between Jazz, Telenor, Zong and Ufone.

How to use

  1. Read the step-by-step porting process below so you know what happens at each stage.
  2. Work through the pre-port checklist — tick each item, and your progress is saved automatically on this device.
  3. Compare typical porting fees and timelines in the operator table before choosing your new network.

Step-by-step porting process

  1. Send your CNIC by SMS. From the number you want to port, send your 13-digit CNIC number without dashes by SMS to 667. You will receive a confirmation message with a reference.
  2. Visit the new operator. Go to a franchise or service centre of the network you want to join (Jazz, Telenor, Zong or Ufone) with your original CNIC.
  3. Complete biometric verification. Your thumbprint is verified through the NADRA system, as required by PTA rules. The number must be registered in your own name.
  4. Pay the porting fee and take the SIM. Pay the fee (often Rs 100 to Rs 250, sometimes free during promotions) and receive the new SIM card. Keep your old SIM active for now.
  5. Wait for porting to complete. Porting usually completes within 4 working days. Your old SIM will stop working and the new SIM will activate — insert the new SIM when the old one loses signal.

Typical porting fees and timelines

OperatorTypical porting feeUsual timeline
JazzAround Rs 100 – Rs 250 (often free in promotions)Within 4 working days
TelenorAround Rs 100 – Rs 250 (often free in promotions)Within 4 working days
ZongAround Rs 100 – Rs 250 (often free in promotions)Within 4 working days
UfoneAround Rs 100 – Rs 250 (often free in promotions)Within 4 working days

Fees and timelines are typical values. Operators change promotions often, so confirm the current fee at the franchise before you start.

Important notes

  • Postpaid users: clear all outstanding dues first — unpaid bills are the most common reason porting requests are rejected.
  • Balance and bundles do not transfer — anything left on the old network is lost when the port completes.
  • Ownership must match: the number must be biometric-verified in your own name on both networks.
  • OTP services: banks, Easypaisa, JazzCash and other services tied to your number keep working because the number itself does not change.

Note

MNP rules are set by the PTA and applied by the operators, and fees, timelines and document requirements can change. Treat this guide as general information, confirm the current porting fee and requirements at the franchise or helpline of the network you are joining, and never share your CNIC or OTP codes with anyone except at the official franchise counter.
