How to use
- Paste your essay or article into the box.
- Press Check Readability. The scores appear in the results card.
- Read the plain-English advice to see what to fix.
- Edit your text and check again until the grade level fits your audience.
Tip: for a school essay, aim for a grade level close to your class level and a reading ease score of 60 or higher.
Tips
- Shorter sentences lower the grade level faster than almost anything else.
- Replace long, complex words with simpler ones where the meaning stays the same.
- Read the text out loud — parts that feel heavy to say usually score as hard to read.
- Technical terms push the score up; define each one the first time you use it.
