Solar Panel Tilt Angle Calculator

Get the best tilt angle for your solar panels. Pick your Pakistan city or enter your latitude to see the ideal fixed angle for the whole year, plus the winter and summer angles for adjustable mounts.

Your location

Recommended tilt angles from horizontal

—
Fixed, whole year

Set once and never touch it. Best average output across all months.

—
Winter (Oct to Mar)

Steeper angle catches the low winter sun.

—
Summer (Apr to Sep)

Flatter angle suits the high summer sun.

Direction matters too: in Pakistan, panels must face true south. Even a perfect tilt angle loses output if the panels face east or west.

Why tilt angle matters

A solar panel produces the most power when sunlight hits it straight on. The sun sits high in summer and low in winter, so the ideal angle changes with the seasons.

  • Fixed angle: equal to your latitude. One setting for the whole year, the simplest choice for most homes.
  • Winter angle: latitude plus 15 degrees. Catches more of the low winter sun when days are short.
  • Summer angle: latitude minus 15 degrees. Matches the high summer sun for maximum output.

Note: If your mounting frame allows adjustment, switch to the winter angle in October and back to the summer angle in April. A wrong tilt of 10 to 15 degrees can cost several percent of yearly energy.

How to use

  1. Select your city from the preset list, or type your latitude manually (find it in your phone map app).
  2. Press Calculate Tilt Angles.
  3. Use the fixed angle if your panels stay in one position all year.
  4. Use the winter and summer angles if you can adjust the frame twice a year.

Note: These are standard rules of thumb used by solar installers. Large solar farms sometimes fine-tune further, but for home systems these angles are accurate enough.

Tips

  • Face the panels true south, not magnetic south, for the best result.
  • Keep the area in front of the panels free of shade from trees, water tanks and parapet walls.
  • Clean dust off the panels every few weeks, especially in dry and windy months.
  • Leave a small air gap under the panels so heat can escape and efficiency stays high.
