Words needed for common time slots (at your pace, with buffer)
| Time slot | Words needed | Your time in slot |

This is an estimate. Real delivery varies with pauses, emphasis and audience interaction.
How to use
- Paste your full speech or presentation script into the text box.
- Choose your speaking pace and add a pause buffer for natural pauses.
- Delivery times appear instantly, plus word counts for 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 minute slots.
Note: time = word count / pace + pause buffer. The words-needed table helps you write to a fixed slot, like a 5-minute presentation.
Tips
- Read the script out loud once — real pace is usually slower than silent reading.
- Keep a 10 to 15 percent buffer; audiences and slide changes always add time.
- For a strict time limit, write 10 percent fewer words than the slot allows.
