Cooking notes

  • Quantities use standard Pakistani catering ratios; the optional 10% buffer covers second servings and spillage.
  • One large daig comfortably cooks 10 to 12 kg of rice, so divide the rice total by 10 to estimate the number of daigs.
  • Adjust water slightly for older rice, which absorbs more, and taste the salt early since it is hard to fix late.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does the daig calculator work out the quantities?

It multiplies standard catering ratios by your guest count. For example, chicken biryani uses about 100 grams of rice and 100 grams of chicken per guest, so 100 guests need 10 kg of rice and 10 kg of chicken. An optional 10 percent buffer adds a safety margin.

Which dishes does the calculator support?

Four dishes: chicken biryani, beef pulao, chicken qorma, and daal mash. Each dish has its own per-guest ratios for rice, meat, oil, onions and water, plus a written spice note.

Are spices included in the quantity table?

The main table covers the bulk ingredients: rice, meat, water, cooking oil and onions. Each dish also shows a spice note, for example one 50 gram packet of biryani masala per 50 guests, since spice brands differ.

Should I turn on the 10 percent buffer?

For weddings and large events it is recommended. Guests may take second servings and cooks allow for spillage, so the buffer protects you from running short. Turn it off for small family events.

Is this daig calculator free?

Yes, it is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to any server.
