Generator Fuel Consumption Calculator

Load shedding is expensive when you do not know your real cost. Enter your generator's size, load and fuel price to find litres burned per hour, plus the daily and monthly running cost — so you can budget backup power properly.

At power factor 0.8, kW = kVA × 0.8.

Tips

  • A generator burns the least fuel per unit of electricity at roughly 70–80% load; running it nearly empty is wasteful.
  • Enter your actual daily running hours — most homes need far fewer hours than they assume.
  • Compare the monthly cost with a UPS or solar backup before buying; fuel generators are cheap to buy but costly to run.
  • Record the meter reading weekly for a month — real consumption often differs from the nameplate estimate.
