Step-by-step process timeline
- Submit the application (Day 1): visit your nearest SNGPL or SSGC office with all documents and fill the new-connection form. Keep the receipt safe.
- Site survey (1 to 4 weeks): a company survey team visits your house to check the distance from the gas main and note the line route.
- Demand notice and payment (1 to 2 weeks after survey): the office issues a demand notice with the application fee, security deposit, and service line charges. Pay at the designated bank within the due date.
- Service line installation (2 to 6 weeks): the company lays the service line and does road cutting if needed. In some areas you may be asked to arrange your share of work.
- Meter installation (1 to 2 weeks): the meter is fixed and tested. The company staff checks for leaks and confirms the supply.
- First bill: your first gas bill arrives with the next billing cycle, including any remaining adjustments from the connection.
Total time is typically 1 to 3 months in cities and can be longer in rural areas. Delays are common where new mains are still being laid.
RLNG and special areas
In areas where only RLNG (regasified liquefied natural gas) is supplied, connection charges and tariffs can differ from standard natural gas. If your area uses RLNG, ask the office for the RLNG-specific fee schedule, since the estimator above covers standard domestic connections only.
