WASA bills are mostly flat-rate by connection size, not metered by litres. If your flat rate jumps without a size change, ask WASA for the reason.
How to read your WASA bill — every field explained
Consumer No / Account No
Your unique WASA account number. You need it for every payment and complaint. It stays the same every month.
Billing month
The month this bill covers. WASA bills are issued monthly; check that the month matches the current cycle.
Current charges
This month water and sewerage charges. For most homes this is a flat amount set by connection size.
Arrears
Unpaid amount from previous bills carried forward. If you paid and still see arrears, the payment may not have been posted yet.
Surcharge
A late-payment penalty, usually 10% of the unpaid amount, added when you miss the due date.
Due date
Pay by this date to avoid the surcharge. Payment after the due date always costs extra.
Common overbilling causes
- Wrong consumer type: a home listed as commercial pays much higher flat rates. Verify the category on your bill.
- Wrong connection size: the bill may show 3/4 inch while your pipe is 1/2 inch — or the reverse.
- Old arrears carried forward: payments made near the due date sometimes miss the billing cycle and reappear as arrears.
- Duplicate consumer numbers: one property billed twice after a sub-division or mutation.
- Tariff revision: WASA raises rates periodically; compare with the same month last year before calling it a mistake.
How to complain to WASA
- Call the WASA helpline at 1334 (WASA Lahore). Keep your consumer number ready.
- Explain the problem clearly: wrong category, wrong size, or unexplained arrears.
- Note the complaint reference number and the promised resolution date.
- Visit your area WASA sub-division office with your CNIC and bill copies if the phone complaint is not resolved.
- Ask for the correction in writing so the next bill is adjusted.
