Important: this tool checks the format of the number only. A valid format does not prove the account exists or is active. Always confirm the full details with the bank before sending money.
How to use
- Paste or type the account number or IBAN in the box above. Spaces and dashes are fine — they are removed automatically.
- Press Validate to see the detected bank, the format verdict and a breakdown of the digits.
- Use the 4-4-4-4 or IBAN groups buttons to choose a readable grouping, then press Copy to copy it.
- Not sure what a good value looks like? Press Try a valid sample or Try an invalid sample.
How the checks work
- Normalization: spaces, dashes and dots are stripped and letters are uppercased.
- Pakistan IBAN: must be 24 characters — PK + 2 check digits + a 4-letter bank code + 16 digits. The 2 check digits are verified with the international mod-97 algorithm.
- Local account numbers: must be 13 to 16 digits. In these formats the first 4 digits very often identify the branch, and the rest is the customer account serial.
- Bank detection: read from the 4-letter IBAN bank code against a table of major Pakistan banks. Plain numeric account numbers carry no bank code, so the bank is reported as unknown for those.
Frequently asked questions
It checks the length and format of Pakistan bank account numbers and IBANs, validates IBAN check digits, detects the bank from the code, and explains what each part of the number means.
No. It only validates the format of the number. A valid format does not prove the account is open or active. Only the bank can confirm that.
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your number is never uploaded or saved anywhere.
A Pakistan IBAN starts with PK, has 2 check digits, a 4-letter bank code and a 16-digit account part — 24 characters in total, for example PK07HABB1712000001234567.
In a Pakistan IBAN the first 4 digits of the 16-digit part usually identify the branch. For local 13 to 16 digit numbers the first 4 digits often hold the branch code, depending on the bank.
Local numeric account numbers do not carry a bank code, so the bank cannot be read from them. Only IBANs contain the 4-letter bank code. If your IBAN code is missing from the table, the bank is also reported as unknown.
