Frequently asked questions
How is bonus taxed for salaried individuals in Pakistan?
In Pakistan, a bonus paid to a salaried individual is treated as part of taxable salary. It is taxed at the normal salaried-individual income tax slabs for the tax year, not at a special flat bonus rate. This calculator adds the bonus to your annual taxable salary and applies the tax year 2026 slabs to find the extra tax caused by the bonus.
What are the salaried individual tax slabs for tax year 2026?
The slabs are: 0 to 600,000 rupees: 0 percent; 600,001 to 1,200,000: 1 percent of the amount above 600,000; 1,200,001 to 2,200,000: 6,000 rupees plus 11 percent of the amount above 1,200,000; 2,200,001 to 3,200,000: 116,000 rupees plus 23 percent of the amount above 2,200,000; 3,200,001 to 4,100,000: 346,000 rupees plus 30 percent of the amount above 3,200,000; above 4,100,000: 616,000 rupees plus 35 percent of the amount above 4,100,000.
Why does the extra tax on my bonus not match my average tax rate?
Because Pakistan uses progressive slabs, the bonus is taxed at your marginal rate, which is the rate on the top slice of your income. If your salary already sits in a higher slab, the whole bonus is taxed at that higher marginal rate, so the effective rate on the bonus can be much higher than your average tax rate on total income.
