Risk bands explained
- Under 20% — excellent. Your debt is well under control and you have strong room for savings or new credit.
- 20% to 35% — manageable. You are in a normal range, but keep new loans limited and watch the trend.
- Over 35% — high risk. A large share of income goes to debt. Lenders see this as a warning sign and one shock can break your budget.

Tips
- Most lenders prefer a ratio under 36%. Below 20% gives you the best credit options.
- Paying off small high-interest debts first lowers the ratio fastest.
- Do not count food, fuel, or utility bills as debt. This tool is about loan-type payments only.
