How it is calculated
Kilowatts = watts ÷ 1000. Units per day = kilowatts × hours. Cost = units × your tariff. The cost per bath assumes 30 minutes of heating per bath. Monthly values are based on 30 days.
Tips to reduce your geyser cost
- Use a timer switch. Set the geyser to switch on only 1–2 hours before you need hot water instead of leaving it on all day.
- Insulate the tank and pipes. A hot water tank loses heat through its walls; foam insulation on the tank and hot water pipes keeps water hot for longer.
- Lower the thermostat. Set the geyser thermostat to 50–55°C instead of the maximum — every extra degree costs more energy.
- Switch off after heating. Once the water is hot, switch the geyser off; the insulated tank keeps it warm for hours.
- Match geyser size to your need. A smaller geyser heats less water faster, which means lower running hours for the same number of baths.
