Frequently asked questions
What is pension commutation in Pakistan?
Commutation means converting a part of your monthly pension, up to 35 percent, into a one-time lump sum payment. A commutation factor based on your age next birthday is used to calculate the lump sum amount.
What is the 15 year restoration rule for commuted pension?
Under Pakistan pension rules, the commuted portion of the pension is restored to the full pension after 15 years. So from the date of commutation, the pensioner receives the reduced monthly pension for 15 years, after which the full gross pension is paid again.
How much pension can be commuted in Pakistan?
Government servants in Pakistan may commute up to 35 percent of their gross monthly pension. The percentage cannot exceed 35 percent.
How is the commutation lump sum calculated?
The monthly commuted amount equals gross pension multiplied by the commutation percentage. The annual commuted amount is that figure times 12. The lump sum equals the annual commuted amount multiplied by the commutation factor for the age next birthday, as per the official government commutation table.
