Roshan Digital Account Guide
The Roshan Digital Account (RDA) is a banking account scheme launched by the State Bank of Pakistan that lets overseas Pakistanis open and operate a Pakistani bank account fully online, without visiting Pakistan. This guide explains what it is, who can use it, and how to get ready before you apply.
What is a Roshan Digital Account?
The Roshan Digital Account is an initiative of the State Bank of Pakistan that connects overseas Pakistanis with the Pakistani banking and investment system through a digital, paperless process. The account is opened remotely through a partner bank's website or mobile app, and it supports international fund transfers, bill payments in Pakistan, and investment options such as the Naya Pakistan Certificate.
The core idea is simple: money sent from your account abroad is credited in Pakistan, and funds can also be moved back out. This two-way flow is what makes RDA different from a regular remittance.
Who can open it (eligibility)
You are generally eligible if you are a Non-Resident Pakistani holding a valid NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) or a POC (Pakistan Origin Card). Federal and provincial government employees and officials posted abroad can also open an account. Joint accounts with a resident Pakistani are allowed in some cases, subject to the bank's own policy.
- You must be living outside Pakistan.
- Your NICOP or POC must be valid, not expired.
- Minors and resident Pakistanis are not eligible for an individual RDA.
Account types
| Account type | What it is |
|---|---|
| PKR Current | A day-to-day transaction account in Pakistani Rupees with no profit paid on the balance. |
| PKR Savings | A savings account in Pakistani Rupees that earns profit at the bank's declared rate. |
| Foreign currency (FCY) account | An account held in a major foreign currency such as USD, GBP, or EUR, useful if you want to keep funds in the currency you earn. |
Which banks offer it
Most major Pakistani commercial banks offer Roshan Digital Accounts through their own digital platforms, including Meezan Bank, HBL, MCB, UBL, Allied Bank, Bank Alfalah, Faysal Bank, and Standard Chartered Pakistan. The account opening process is similar across banks, but profit rates, fee schedules, and extra services can differ, so compare two or three banks before choosing.
Step-by-step opening process
- Choose a bank and visit its Roshan Digital Account page or open the bank's mobile app from abroad.
- Start the digital application. Enter your personal details, NICOP or POC number, and contact information.
- Upload your documents — NICOP or POC, passport copy, proof of profession and source of funds, and a live photograph or short video as requested.
- Complete verification. The bank checks your identity digitally. This can take a few working days.
- Account activation. Once approved, you receive your account number and IBAN. You can then transfer funds from abroad and start using internet banking.
Documents you may need

Naya Pakistan Certificate — basics
The Naya Pakistan Certificate is a savings and investment product available to RDA holders, offered in PKR and in major foreign currencies, with several tenure options. It is backed by the government framework administered through the State Bank of Pakistan. Profit rates, tenures, and early-encashment rules are set officially and change from time to time, so always read the current terms on the State Bank of Pakistan website or your bank's RDA page before investing. This page does not offer investment advice.
Repatriation rules — key note
A central feature of the Roshan Digital Account is full repatriation: funds in the account can be transferred back to your account abroad without needing separate approval. Investment products such as the Naya Pakistan Certificate have their own repatriation and encashment rules, so confirm them for the specific product before you invest.
