3 Practical Ways to Cut Your AC Bill
  1. Set 24-26°C instead of 18-20°C. Every extra degree saves roughly 6-8% of cooling energy. 26°C with a ceiling fan feels as cool as 22°C without one.
  2. Seal the room and clean the filters monthly. Dirty filters and air gaps force the compressor to run longer. Clean filters can improve efficiency by up to 15%.
  3. Use a timer or sleep mode at night. Running the AC only when needed, and letting sleep mode raise the temperature slightly after a few hours, cuts night-time units sharply.

How to use

  1. Select your AC size in tons (0.75, 1, 1.5 or 2).
  2. Choose Inverter or Non-Inverter. Inverter ACs use about 35% less power on average.
  3. Enter how many hours per day the AC runs and your electricity tariff in Rs per kWh.
  4. Click Calculate Cost to see power draw, units and costs per hour, day, month and year, plus saving tips.

How the estimate is calculated

A non-inverter AC is estimated at about 1,150 watts per ton of cooling capacity, which is a typical value for common room ACs. An inverter AC is estimated to use about 35% less power, because its compressor slows down to hold room temperature instead of switching fully off and on. Daily units are power draw in kilowatts times daily hours, and cost is units times your tariff.
